Our aim is to develop independent and lifelong learners of literacy. From Foundation through to Grade Six, we use a variety of proven approaches, including multi-sensory techniques and carefully selected programs, to support students’ acquisition and development of literacy skills.

Our children have access to an extensive range of resources, and our teachers engage and support them in becoming confident communicators as well as creative and critical thinkers.

We believe in building a strong literacy foundation in the first years of schooling. To support our students experience success in reading and writing, teachers introduce and strengthen knowledge and skills such as, phonics, syllables, rhyme, blending and segmenting. Students continue to build on their reading skills through small group instruction, thereby developing effective decoding and comprehension strategies. In writing children learn letter formation using the Casey Caterpillar resource, which helps them visualise the correct shapes in order to become fluent handwriters.

Whilst spelling and grammar still remain an important part of our writing instruction, we put much emphasis on our students developing great ideas and using interesting vocabulary. We focus on these skills using the Seven Steps programs, where our students learn strategies to reflect upon, and make their writing more appealing and meaningful. Teachers provide engaging experiences to support and motivate writing for a variety of authentic purposes across the curriculum.
